Vimshottari dasha
Vimshottari (“one hundred and twenty”) assigns each of nine lords a period summing to 120 years. Where the cycle starts is personal: the Moon’s nakshatra at birth names the first lord, and the Moon’s progress through that nakshatra fixes how much of the period remains — the balance of dasha.
| Order | Lord | Years |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ketu | 7 |
| 2 | Venus | 20 |
| 3 | Sun | 6 |
| 4 | Moon | 10 |
| 5 | Mars | 7 |
| 6 | Rahu | 18 |
| 7 | Jupiter | 16 |
| 8 | Saturn | 19 |
| 9 | Mercury | 17 |
Each mahadasha divides into nine bhuktis in the same proportion, starting from its own lord; each bhukti into nine antaras, and so on. This app computes five levels — maha, bhukti, antara, sookshma, prana — with years of exactly 365.25 days (the KP convention; the constant is explicit and unit-tested).
KP’s use of the dasha is precise (KP Reader III): an event can only arrive when the running lords are significators of the event’s houses — the dasha system supplies the when, the significators the what. The Transits tab turns that into concrete windows.
